In loving memory of our best friends

Hope

Hope was found as a stray in San Bernardino weighing a mere 37 pounds. Every bone on her precious body was showing. She could hardly walk and was almost completely blind from cataracts.

Upon rescuing her, we admitted her to a hospital where we learned she was diabetic. She stayed in the hospital for two weeks, each day she became stronger as she was treated with insulin.

We eventually brought her home and continued to increase her insulin which caused her to begin to gain weight. Once Hope was a healthy weight, she underwent surgery to remove her cataracts which restored her eyesight.

After a year and a half in our care and 25 pounds later, Hope was adopted by a wonderful family. Hope became a loving member of their family. She faced numerous medical challenges.

Hope recently suffered a massive stroke and passed away two and a half years after having been adopted. She was approximately 13 years old.

Hope was loved by everybody and is deeply, deeply missed.

Emma

Emma spent most of her life being used for backyard breeding. As she aged, her owners abandoned her in Kern County due to a large mass on her abdomen.

We rescued her and she received treatment for her growth mass and neglected dental care. She spent a year and a half in our care prior to being adopted.

Eight months later, at 11 years old, Emma became extremely ill as cancer had spread throughout her body.

Emma was truly a blessing to our rescue. She was one of the most kind-hearted dogs we've had the honor of knowing. She is missed beyond belief.

Josie

In Loving Memory of Josie

We took Josie into our care after learning she had a cancerous tumor on her throat. Her caregiver wasn't able to afford her care. We had Josie seen by an oncologist; a CT scan was performed and we learned she had cancerous masses on her liver that were unable to be surgically removed.

Josie's diagnosis was grim, the vet gave her 12-18 months to live. We immediately treated her with chemotherapy. After over a year on the prescribed medication, Josie's masses began to grow and we discontinued treatment.

After three years in our care, Josie passed away at 14 years old. We miss her dearly.

Freddie

Freddie was rescued from the Riverside Animal Shelter after he was scheduled to be euthanized. His foster mommy instantly fell in love with him and eventually adopted him

Freddie loved going on long walks and his trips to the beach. Sadly, he passed away due to cancer.

He was only 8. He will be dearly missed ❤️🐾

Bear

We located Bear at the San Bernardino Animal Shelter and notified them of our intention to pull him. Before we could arrive, Bear began experiencing severe & persistent seizures. We rushed to Bear's side and took him to a vet where, after many hours, they were unable to stop Bear's seizures. Ultimately, we felt it was unfair to Bear to allow him to continue to suffer.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bear and the future we were hoping for him.

Polly

Polly was found as a stray with a torn ACL. we rescued her from the San Bernardino Animal Shelter to help her on her rehabilitation journey.

We were heartbroken when she unexpectedly passed away while under medical anesthesia during a dental cleaning. She was a sweet, loving dog. Polly's spirit will live on through our rescue and we will miss her greatly.

Lola

We rescued Lola approximately 3 years ago after she was found inside a dumpster in Miami. Her ears were backyard butchered and she had been used to breed multiple times by backyard breeders.

She was taken to the Miami Animal Shelter, which determined she had severe heartworm disease. She also had numerous tumors. After rescuing her, she underwent months of heartworm treatment. When she was healthy enough, we had her tumors removed. Her infectious smile earned her the nickname of the Happy Hippo.

Lola eventually developed lymphoma and had to undergo months of chemotherapy to save her life. She has lived cancer-free for over a year and a half.

Sadly, her cancer returned making it difficult for her to walk and breathe. The discussion was made by her mom to let Lola cross the rainbow bridge. We believe Lola was approximately 13 at the time of her passing She is missed dearly by everyone at SCPBR.

We know she’s in heaven playing with all the others we have lost.

Hamilton

The fighter, the lover, the hero, and the inspiration
of our fight.

We rescued Hamilton from the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter. He was scheduled to be euthanized simply because he had several masses. Shortly after being rescued, he sufferend a seizure in his sleep and wash rushed to the hospital. His masses were eventually removed and he was adopted by a beautiful loving couple who devoted their lives to his happiness.

Hamilton spent two years with his family before being diagnosed with cancerous tumor on his heart. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy. However, his cancer spread and he became extremely ill. He will be greatly, greatly missing. He was an amazing guy and soul, and our rescue is so greatful to the time all had with him. We are deeply saddened for his family and all them will always be a part of our rescue, forever!

Sandy beach

Sandy Beach was rescued from the Ramona Humane Society in Hemet. After being used for breeding, she was covered in tumors and mammary masses.

She was found as a stray in horrible condition. She underwent numerous surgeries and stressful procedures. She at one point had to deal with her incision becoming badly infected and spent 5 days in the hospital. During her recovery, she became best friends with another one of our rescues Frankie. They were eventually adopted together and it was just truly heaven for both of them.

Sandy Beach was one of the sweetest dogs our rescue has ever known and had a smile that could light up the sky. She is deeply missed and is always in our hearts. We will never forget our little girl Sandy Beach and we will never forget the impact that she had on this rescue.Sandy Beach has become the heart of our rescue and we are forever indebted to her presence on this Earth with us. We are blessed to have had the short time we had with her. We are committed to living out her memory, rescuing even more dogs who suffer the way she had suffered.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU SANDY BEACH.

Madeline

At only 9 weeks of age, Madeline was found as a stray and turned into the shelter. She was covered in burn marks.

We rescued her after she contracted pneumonia. We soon learned she also had distemper, an easily avoidable disease.

We fought diligently to help her fight this disease. We immediately started her on the Newcastle Distemper Vaccine. However, the disease started to affect her neurological system.

Madeline began to have seizures, at which point we placed her on phenobarbital. Sadly, Madeline reached the point where she could no longer walk and came down with pneumonia for the second time.

Her courage to fight this horrible disease stole hearts throughout the world and we are forever grateful to her presence here on Earth. Our hearts are shattered but our mission to rescue rolls on and she gave us that continued strength.

She will be deeply missed.

Bandit

Bandit was rescued from the Long Beach shelter. He was deaf and blind in his right eye. We later found out that he had terminal cancer and passed away a month later.

Bandit was the sweetest and gentlest guy in the world. We are devastated by his loss. He will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

He received nothing but love from his foster mom, Rebecca Pedersen, during his seven weeks under her care.

Bubbles

Bubbles was found as a stray and turned into the Santa Paula animal rescue shelter. She had 4 large tumors, which the shelter removed. One of determined to be terminal cancer.

We rescued her and placed her into hospice with Kimberlee Gull, her foster mom, whom she lived with for six months prior to being put down.

Bubbles was the most loving and affectionate dog ever. She was a great playmate with Kimberlee's Pit Bull Mr. Annie. We miss Bubbles terribly and she will never be forgotten.

Archie

Archie was found abandoned in a field in Northern California. He had limited use of his back legs and was immediately scheduled to be euthanized.

After rescuing him, he was seen by two neurologists and underwent an MRI. It showed he had an inoperable cyst on his spine. It eventually left him unable to use his back legs.

After several months, Archie became incontinent. Eventually, he started having severe spasms in his back and it became increasingly more difficult for him to move.

He left us with a full belly of cheeseburgers and is incredibly missed!
